Peter Rowlands was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, in north-east England, but has lived nearly all his adult life in London. There are so far three books in his Mike Stanhope Mysteries series, all of which work as stand-alone novels. They draw on Peter’s long experience of editing and contributing to business magazines in the field of logistics and transportation. He says he regards his previous career as “a long apprenticeship”.
The books take an everyday character and confront him with a series of challenging situations, usually with a romantic back story. Peter says character and plot have equal importance for him, and he aims to make his main participants jump off the page as believable, fleshed-out people. He aims to give all his book escalating tension, unexpected twists and turns, and complex plots that finally fall together like a jigsaw puzzle.
