About the Author

Karen E. Black, author of the Devereux Cousins Series, lives in Toronto, Ontario with her family. When she published her debut novel, she didn't know she was writing a series, but her readers were eager to know more. From the Chrysalis, which was published in 2012, is the first book in this trilogy. In 2014, she wrote the sequel called Feeling for the Air about Dace Devereux's escape from a corrupt penitentiary system and his dual mission to clear his name and find out where the monarch butterflies really made their winter home. Take to the Sky, final novel in this trilogy was completed in 2017.

Her work as a reference librarian helped her enrich the setting and heighten the suspense of From the Chrysalis by using historical detail about the deadliest event in Canadian penal history, the Kingston Penitentiary Riot of April 1971. Though she doesn't claim to have been a participant in the riot, she also had a little personal knowledge. From the Chrysalis won a Readers Favorite Award in 2012.
