Remarkable man, remarkable time, back when America was still full of deists and secularists, before the so-called great Awakening strangled us into superstition, when we were unafraid to attend to a man of passion and reason like Ingersoll. He was in fact the most popular speaker of his day, and an outspoken Atheist.
