I can easily imagine a group of Victorian women, seated before a blazing fire, listening intently as one of their number reads this story aloud, while shivering and exclaiming softly at the more unnerving parts!

The atmosphere is eerie, and although the pacing may be more suited to a story being read aloud, it's still very enjoyable.
