A bit oldfashioned Scifi novel about humanoid aliens, bred for work and pleasure of the humans. A vet is offered a job to care for them and discovered an unwanted truth. Its maybe a little bit sexist from this times point of view, but wellwritten.

I read Lovecraft years ago as a teenager, but in the german translation. As i now read mostly the english original text, i like the original much better. The language creates an ever increasing mood of uneasyness and threat. In contrast to modern horror, nothing in the story is gory, but its scary nontheless. One of Lovecrafts best storys in my opinion

This is a typical fantasy novel with lots of magic, elves, dwarfs etc. Its not fantasy at its best, but a good read. I am even reading part two of the series.

The story is farfetched and very constructed. The caracters appear out of the blue and are not very believable. Especially the sisters Carnie and Carsie are just prototypes. I read it to the end, but wouldnt read it again
