My dad who was born in 1890 and my mom who born in 1900 told me to try and get a hold of this book,as back then when they were in Mtl. The book was banned in Quebec by the Catholic Church. They told me that tunnels were actually found in Mtl where they discovered many things and I think that is why Quebec banned the book.
This book has been extremely useful in my studies. It's a very intense, but very good book to read. I can't wait to buy a copy.
Writing just does not get any worse than this, unless you're Dan Brown. I could understand the monotonous pace and wording being a deliberate reflection of the coldness and sterility that is associated with robotics, but when it comes to passages like
"Slowly, Jack maneuvered the Hardyman until it loomed before him. A hard hat from work atop his head, Jack turned his back to the machine. Cautiously, he placed his feet onto the metal boot-plates. Carefully, he leaned his torso against its steel spine. Gently, he raised his head inside its mechanical frame."
it doesn't look like the style was intentional. Adverbs aren't the only problem in this work. The characters are total cardboard. The narration is lifeless, and not in a scary dystopian-like way. A little Strunk and White goes a long way. Too bad, the concept was kind of cool.
