The Mayor of Casterbridge

Great book. I read it during school as all my friends had to for their english literature class, and I wanted to sound smart! I ended up loving it more than most of them did and went on to read far from the madding crowd.

A good story: This guy sells his wife for a pint in one dreadful drunken night many years ago. Now he's the respectable mayor of a town, and all is going well for him, having forgotten his dim past, until things change in his sleepy town...
