How and When to Tell the Story to the Young

Author: Margaret Warner Morley

Language: English

Published: 1906

Every human being must sooner or later know the facts concerning the origin of his life on the earth. One of the most puzzling questions is how and when such information should be given to the young.

There is nothing the parent more desires than that his child should have a high ideal in regard to the sex-life and that he should live in accordance with that ideal, yet nowhere is careful and systematic education so lacking as here.

Language: English

Published: 1908

The subject dealt with in this book is one of great, and one may say growing, importance. Whether it is that the present period is one of large increase in the numbers of men and women of an intermediate or mixed temperament, or whether it merely is that it is a period in which more than usual attention happens to be accorded to them, the fact certainly remains that the subject has great actuality and is pressing upon us from all sides.

Language: English

Published: 1922

The more we know of the facts of sex, the right and normal part sex activities play in life, and all that tends to abuse and degrade them, the better able we will be to make sex a factor for happiness in our own lives and that of our descendants. Mankind, for its own general good, must desire that reproduction—the real purpose of every sexual function—occur in such a way as to perpetuate its own best physical and mental qualities.

Anna Lombard

Author: Victoria Cross

Language: English

Published: 1901

I endeavored to draw in Gerald Ethridge a character whose actions should be in accordance with the principle, laid down by Christ, one that would display, not in word but in his actual life, that gentleness, humility, patience, charity, and self-sacrifice that our Redeemer himself enjoined. It is a sad commentary on our religion of to-day that a presumably Christian journal --The Daily Chronicle--should hold this Christ-like conduct up to ridicule and contempt, stigmatize it as "horrid absurdity," and declare that for such qualities a man ought to be turned out of their service. I challenge The Daily Chronicle and all who follow its opinion to find one act which does not reflect Christ's own teaching, committed by Gerald Ethridge. He forgives the sinner, raises the fallen, comforts the weak. He works and suffers to reclaim the pagan and almost lost soul of Anna Lombard. Fearlessly, and with the Gospel of Christ in my hand, I offer this example of his teaching to the great Christian public for its verdict, confident that I shall be justified by it.

Language: English

Published: 1959

The Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Greece and Rome had returned to Earth--with all their awesome powers intact, and Earth was transformed almost overnight. War on any scale was outlawed, along with boom-and-bust economic cycles, and prudery--no change was more startling than the face of New York, where, for instance, the Empire State Building became the Tower of Zeus!

In this totally altered world, William Forrester was an acolyte of Athena, Goddess of Wisdom, and therefore a teacher, in this case of a totally altered history--and Maya Wilson, girl student, evidently had a totally altered way of grading in mind--but what else would a worshipper of Venus, Goddess of Love, have in mind?
