  • Various sites have been “hotlinking” to cover images on manybooks.net, and while I don’t mind if the images are used on other sites, it would be better if images were copied to another server in order to preserve the bandwith that manybooks has for downloading eBooks. With that in mind, rules have been put in place to make hotlinks to images break.
  • Updated PHP and caused some trouble with conversion scripts for Plucker. All OK now, thanks Dennis!
  • Power was cut for about 5 seconds last night which caused Apache to stop - and it didn’t start up again after reboot. Argh. I’m switching back to Apache 1.3
  • Fixed the permissions issue for eReader format
  • TCR format has been re-enabled.
  • Librie format is back again - still testing, but maybe it’s working OK? I don’t have a Librie to test with, so send feedback if you have tried it and it has/hasn’t worked.
  • Fixed the Review this book links — visitors can once again submit reviews for any title on the site.
  • Moved to a new server (a Mac OS X Intel Mini), which should be a little more reliable — after it’s had time to break in a bit. The one major issue is Palm eReader format, which doesn’t work yet; something to do with permissions and java apps.
  • Google Ads have been added to the sidebar of every page on the site — they used to be displayed on “read online” pages only. I’m going to keep it this way for one month, so that I can get an idea of the impact it might have on the site.
  • Added the option to search a date range on the advanced search page.
  • Due to the apparent disinterest in computer-voiced audiobooks, the Audiobook blog has been disabled.
  • Oof. It seems that del.icio.us and lifehacker.com have joined in. The site must be slow as a dog, but it’s holding up OK, so far.
  • Digg.com strikes again - this time MySQL only crashed three times :) I’m going to have to do some optimization so the site is a little more resilient.
  • It occured to me that some folks might find large print versions of the PDFs useful - so I’ve added a 16pt base font size PDF to the download options. I hope it’s useful! If you use it, but find the size too small/large please let me know.
  • I’m playing around with podcasts and audiobook blogs using Talkr.com and Wordpress 2.1 - you can listen to Greenmantle, one chapter per day, or wait until the end of the month to download all chapters at once. More titles to follow.
  • Just added 10 Most Recent Downloads page so we can see what everyone else is interested (anonymously, of course).
  • Looks like there is a 20% to 69% split between desktop and PDA users.

  • Just switched all of the stylesheets to use em values instead of pixels. Please let me know if it looks weird in your browser!
  • Some new headers will be sent when you download an ebook - this may help some Windows users that have all of their downloads named “send.php”.
  • Donations can now be made using PayPal. Thanks to all who have helped keep manybooks.net going!
  • Having fun reading eBooks on my PSP using psp.manybooks.net.
