Podcast woes

Monday, July 3rd, 2006

It’s a little early to say for sure, but it seems there’s some difficulty with the podcast feature on the automatic audiobooks blog, at least in iTunes. What’s supposed to happen is this: chapters are pre-loaded in the blog with timestamps to set to release one chapter a day — a chapter is posted to the blog, Talkr.com grabs the RSS feed and makes an MP3 available, which is pulled to your favorite news reader or podcast grabber.

Everything works except the bit about Talkr.com grabbing the RSS feed — that doesn’t seem to happen unless a reader actually visits the blog first, and clicks “Listen to this chapter”. After that Talkr.com seems to update their own rss feed, and the mp3 is distributed.

I can’t really complain, particularly since it’s a free conversion to high-quality computer generated audio, but I wish I could figure out what the hold-up is! Time for a little digging…

News and Announcements managed by Wordpress

Saturday, July 1st, 2006

Wordpress has been installed to help manage site news and audiobook release announcements.

Serialized audiobook releases will be produced one chapter per day using the excellent Talkr.com service. When a new title starts being serialized it will be announced under the “Audiobook Releases” category in this blog, with chapters and RSS feeds for the audiobook itself in the Audiobooks blog.

Old news items will be back-posted for posterity, just in case :)
