Recent downtime

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Primary and backup drives seem to have developed problems during a recent thunderstorm — either the surge suppressor didn’t do any good, or the problem was unrelated to power issues; at any rate the site is back in place, though there may be a few missing titles. If you notice anything out of place please let me know!

Severe Weather = Bad DSL

Thunderstorms have made the local DSL very un-reliable today; rebooting the DSL modem and the router seem to resolve the problem temporarily, but not for very long… but the intermittent access should be fixed by Monday.

Are there any developers working on eBook readers at Apple’s WWDC this year? Please drop me a note if you are!

ruBooks

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

I’ve been enjoying another eBook reader for the iPhone: ruBooks, based on Zachary Brewster-Geisz’s Books.app, is a flexible ebook reader with two notable features.

The first is the ability to read files stored anywhere on your iPhone; that means you can download a book using installer.app or using textReader, and ruBooks can find it.

The second welcome feature is the ability to page using the volume button. I like the iPhone touchscreen, but the volume button is so handy!

Many formats are supported, from FB2, HTML, TXT, DOC, PDF, to Excel!

Read more at http://colel.info/rubooks/ or just add the source repository to Installer.app and look under the “Productivity” section for ruBooks.

Friday, June 6th, 2008

I’m delighted to note that manybooks.net has been mentioned in the fourth edition of The Free iPod + iPhone Book by the fine folks over at iLounge. Go grab a copy and delve into “All Things iPod, iPhone, and Apple TV!”
