tello da Foz, como faccionario da revolta militar d'aquelle anno. Governava então o districto o snr. Antonio Emilio Brandão, cavalheiro cujas virtudes ainda não foram puidas pelo atrito da politica. Dignou-se a auctoridade ouvir as declarações do indiciado como conspirador; e, suspensa a ordem de prisão, deixou-o vigiado pela policia.

Escusado é procurar o snr. Alves Martins estranho á revolução de 1846 e 1847. Conheceu os homens, que formaram o gabinete revolucionario, visinhou d'elles com o seu conselho e pratica dos negocios; mas pendemos a crer que muitissimos actos da Junta, nomeadamente os militares e diplomaticos, mereceram a sua reprovação, mais ou menos expressada no opusculo NOVE DE OUTUBRO, que sua S. Ex.ª publicou, historiando os successos tumultuosos da contra-revolução[3].
