Quem sabe a serie de disciplinas que ao presente se exigem aos officiaes de marinha, os longos e aturados estudos de mathematicas e sciencias physicas que para ellas são preparatorios, mal poderá imaginar a simplicidade e rudeza dos conhecimentos de que dispunham os primeiros navegadores.
