En sentir del primero, la obrita contiene «muchas cosas de mucha moralidad y enseñança, escritas con la sazón y variedad que de tal ingenio se podían esperar. Merece--añadió--la licencia que pide, porque este linage de escritos es difícil de enquadernar con lo honesto y recatado de nuestras christianas leyes, y Luis Vélez ha sido en éste gloriosa excepción desta vniuersal dolencia.» Más extremado es el parecer del segundo, que encarece el sazonado gusto de Vélez, «por auer puesto la naturaleza en su ingenio la elegancia del estilo, la suabidad del dezir, la aduertencia en el colocar, la atenta circunspección en las palabras, y todo con tal modo, que dexa suspensa la razón sobre a qual de estas partes se deba con más justificación
