A spy story, of sorts. An irritating professor of ancient Roman history explains to his drinking buddy how he came to learn about a plot to paralyze New York and leave the country open to invasion.

An interesting version of the 'take away the technology and society falls on its face' story. The writing is okay, except that the professor and the agent are both insufferable.
