In this first volume of the All Things Impossible series, an ancient evil has returned. An ancient war has resumed. And for the first time in elven history, the Crown of the Realm has been stolen. But young Derora Saxen knows nothing of such things. When she sets out from her village with her best friend Kelin, she knows only that she wants to be a warrior. She does not know the immortal chemmen have escaped the realm of darkness to which they had been banished for millennia. She does not know chemmen armies are already exacting revenge on their hated enemies, the elves, or that chemmen assassins have already killed the elven king and queen. And she does not know that by helping a young stranger, she will be drawn into a struggle that began long before she was born, and take the first steps on her path to destiny. In the fires of an ancient war, a new hero will be forged.

'm almost ready for the guild examination." A grin swelled on his face.

"That's good news." She paused. "So, will you be going to Duelingar to take it?"

"I have to. They don't come to me," he said lightly, with a twinkle in his eye. "What? You want to come?"

She nodded -- there was no use being dishonest to a friend who could discern those rare times she tried to lie. "I've got to get out of here."

He cast her a reproachful look. "It's not that horrible of a place, Der, it's actually a nice town."

"But it's... it's boring." She glanced ahead onto the ancient stone bridge for which the village derived its name and to his house just on the other side. They crossed the water at least eight times a day. They hardly noticed any more.

Kelin nodded. "I know, I know."

"You're right, it's nice, but there's nothing for me to do here. Yes, help out on the farm, but it's not what I want to do. I want to you know, live dangerously, be unpredictable."

I, for one, forgive the author for the errors through this book but the book is free and as suggested by another fan, would be willing to proofread any of her work. It is well worth the read. In fact, would like to read the third book in the series but can't find it. Has it been written yet?

I loved this series!! I took a chance with the first book and couldn’t put it down and just had to get the remaining books to follow the adventure. I have never written a review before, however I wanted to recommend this book. If you like fantasy’s I do believe you will enjoy this series.

I found all the books compelling and exciting. As a writer myself i find it petty for people to put down a book on the account of a few errors without even giving the book a chance. As for the main protagonist, i think she was invigorating and adds a sense hope and determination, people need to remember that to stick to the usual characters would dull the story.
I think you have created an amazing world; don't let those who don't appreciate it get you down. The story would not be the same if Der didn't act as she does, and spelling and grammer only get better with time. I eagerly look forward to reading S&B,
Regards,
Sherelle

I really wish someone had edited this manuscript, because it has a lot of potential. It is as well imagined as the Eragon series, and look where that has gone. As to the objections about the main character, I believe her actions are meant to be humorous. She is not nicknamed "Der" for nothing. Think of her as the Homer Simpson of the fantasy world.

I have just finished the 3rd installment and am compelled to write this review. The characters are magnetic .. varied and interesting. There's a nice mix of traditional fantasy and fresh ideas. The story is colorful, it's detailed, it's serious and it's fun. I love a story that can stretch my limits of believability. I'll be watching for each new entry in the series!

Stopped after a few pages... Stilted dialog, and it could have at least been proof-read. A few spelling/grammer errors? To say a few per page is generous. More like per sentence...

This book and the sequel were a joy and gave me many hours of escape. The characters are engaging. The story is true to traditional fantasy ideas but is not cliched. Think Richard Jordan. Thanks to the availability here on Manybooks, I have been recommending the author to friends and family. As far as typos, the ebooks were free to download and read, people! There is such a glut of badly written and/or edited material on the bookstore shelves that I have stopped buying books for a while. Maybe if all of the fans here offer to proofread for free...

Great book!
A lot of little spelling errors,
but the story was really nice.
I can't wait to read the next one.

I'm surprised that you didn't enjoy it. To each their own I guess. I liked the progression of the characters in this obvious coming of age story. Their young, they make mistakes and learn from them.

I was surprised how bad this is considering the high overall review. I got through 20% of this book then gave up. The primary character is a young woman who leaves home with aspirations of joining an army and becoming a hero. Unfortunately, she comes across as an annoying idiot. Her words and actions are unrealistic - even within the realm of a fantasy story. There is just no way to build an interesting plot when everything the main character says or does seems artificial and only there to provoke reaction from other characters.

I couldn't even make it through the prologue. Even in fantasy stories, nobody talks like that. Horribly written. Sucks

Poorly written, really bad grammar, stilted dialogue, and cliched plot. The characters could be interesting but they are not believable. Lots of blood and gore. Reads like the first draft of a book.
