Books Becoming Movies in 2019 (Part One)

Each new year means that a slew of new movies will be hitting the big screen and these days the chances are that a lot of them will be based on books. Some will be faithful adaptations of the source material, while others tend to only borrow characters and settings while putting their own spin on the story. Although some people enjoy going into a movie without knowing anything about it, there are others who prefer reading the book first to see what was changed. If you are an avid reader who also happen to love movies, then these are the books you will want to read before they are turned into movies this year.

The Rhythm Section 

by Mark Burnell

Fans of Blake Lively and Jude Law can look forward to seeing them in The Rhythm Section. It is based on the book of the same name by Mark Burnell and tells the story of a woman who loses her family in a plane crash. However, it turns out that the crash was orchestrated, so she makes it her mission to take revenge against those responsible. The Rhythm Section is part of the "Stephanie Patrick Thrillers" series by Mark Burnell, so if the movie does well, it could be the start of a new film franchise. 

Pet Sematary

After the success of IT, it's no surprise that audiences are ready for more Stephen King. In addition to the sequel for IT releasing this year, 2019 will also see a fresh take on the 1983 horror novel, Pet Sematary. Pet Sematary already got a film adaptation in 1989 and even a sequel movie in 1992, but hopefully the new readaptation will be more than just another b-movie. The movie is set for an April release and will star Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz and John Lithgow.

The Woman In The Window

The Woman in the Window is the story of a child psychologist who suffer from agoraphobia, which makes it hard for her to leave her house. However, one day while she spies on her neighbors, she witnesses something very disturbing. This leaves her with the dilemma of having to decide wether or not to become involved by calling the police. This type of thriller where someone sees something that they were not supposed to have worked well for the film adaptation of The Girl on The Train, so if the movie is true to the book, then The Woman in the Window should be a hit. It will feature an all-star cast, with big names like Amy Adams, Gary Oldman, Julianne More and Anthony Mackie.

All The Bright Places

If thrillers and horrors are not your thing, then All the Bright Places may be a better match. It is a drama romance film that is based on the novel of the same name by Jennifer Niven. It is the story of Violet and Theodore, who will be played in the film by Elle Fanning and Justice Smith, two teens that are brought together by fate. Both of them struggle with their mental health, which causes them to form an unusual bond. 

The Aftermath

Continuing with the dramas is The Aftermath, which is based on the Rhidian Brook novel of the same name. It also follows the same plot as the novel, which means that it is set in 1946, shortly after the war. In the movie, Kiera Knightley will be playing the role of Rachael Morgan, a woman who reunites with her husband, played by Jason Clarke, in Hamburg. Her husband is a British colonel who is given the task of rebuilding the city that has been devastated by the war, which is why the couple make their home there. However, Rachael is unprepared for the revelation that the house that they will be living in is to be shared with its previous German owners, a widower, played by Alexander Skarsgard, and his troubled daughter. This obviously results in quite a tense situation and sets the scene perfectly for plenty of drama.

Five Feet Apart

It worked for The Fault In Our Stars, but it remains to be seen whether Five Feet Apart will also be able to move audiences to tears with its tragic romance and drama. The movie is based on the Rachael Lippincott novel and tells the story of a pair of teenagers with life-threatening illnesses who fall in love after meeting in the hospital. Haley Lu Richardson is playing the female lead, Stella, while Cole Sprouse is stepping into the shoes of her romantic interest, Will. The fact that the two cannot get closer than five feet of each other or else they are putting their lives at risk means that this is a real tearjerker of a story.
