John Renouard, founder and executive director of the nonprofit WHOlives, is affectionately known in Africa as “Bwana Maji,” or Mr. Water. After visiting Africa in 2010, he was compelled to address the severe lack of clean water in many villages. This inspiration led to the creation of the Village Drill, a revolutionary machine that has provided millions of people in over 40 countries with access to clean water for the first time in their lives.
John's impact extends beyond water access. He is a formidable force in the fight to end female genital mutilation (FGM) and child marriages, employing common-sense solutions that make a real difference. John has distributed thousands of copies of his book, "The Value of a Daughter," to help men understand the importance of valuing and empowering their daughters. His efforts are not only raising awareness but actively contributing to the eradication of these brutal practices, transforming communities and creating a safer, more equitable future for countless girls.
