Elena Greyrock - Offbeat, Humorous Romance

Elena Greyrock is the author of The Luna James Series, a provocative love story filled with sizzling heat and humor. Also a blogger on medium https://elenagreyrock.medium.com Like Elena's personality, Elena's book is quirky and unexpected. It is filled with original songs written by Arturo Augustus. Elena lives in Manchester, New Hampshire with a family of splendid and prolific plants and her fiance, a technologist. When not consumed by the latest riveting page-turner, or blogging, she travels. As our Author of the Day, she tells us all about her book, Six Feet Apart.

Please give us a short introduction to what Six Feet Apart is about.

Six Feet Apart: Love in Quarantine is a fun, witty romance novella set during the pandemic and filled with sex, music, and quarantinis. It’s a love story between Luna, a quirky wanna-be-influencer, and Stryker, a narcissistic musician with a surprising backstory. They fall into a fast romance that burns hot, but secrets could spell disaster for them.

It is not as dark as the title may have you believe, it’s a light and playful romance. A perfect read or listen in one sitting. It’s a page-turner that will keep you interested, and you won’t expect what happens next.

I am thrilled that the audiobook version of my book is now available on Spotify! The audiobook is a dual narration (Luna and Stryker) you can check out the audiobook trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGazrKxwxN8

What inspired you to write this story? Was there anything in particular that made you want to tackle this?

I was sitting across from a gorgeous young couple cozied up on a train. They looked like Luna and Stryker, they were wearing masks and sharing a set of corded headphones (one in each opposite ear)

They were resting their heads against each other listening to music on the guy’s iPhone. The young couple were smiling with their eyes, lost in bliss and oblivion. I began imagining what being in love must be like in times of COVID.

Why did you pick a wanna-be influencer as a protagonist?

Luna is a paradox. Although she is an introvert, she struggles with wanting to break out of her shell and “be seen” on social media. She mistakenly believes it will give her some sort of validation that her opinion matters. Social media’s paradox is not only how we appear to others, but also how we appear to ourselves.

Tell us more about Stryker. What makes him tick?

Stryker relies on his hotness privilege. He knows people (especially women) react to him in a certain way because of his uncanny good looks. And he expects it. Yet underneath his beautiful exterior, he uncovers a new sensibility through his music and the love he has for Luna.

Your work contains a lot of humor. Why do you take this approach?

I hope readers pick up on that a lot of the story is meant to be tongue-in-cheek. I wasn’t intentionally trying to make it funny; it just happened that way because Luna is a quirky character and sees things a little differently.

Besides writing, what other secret skills do you have?

I love to blog on Medium.com! Many of my stories/blog posts have been published by Medium publications. I write about all sorts of topics, some personal, others factual. Check it out here https://elenagreyrock.medium.com/

This book contains a couple of original songs. Please tell us more about this.

Arturo Augustus wrote the lyrics, and he also wrote the music that goes along with each song! The song “Luna” is a slow-burning ballad. The song “Quarantina” is super catchy, like a dive bar anthem (think of the song Sweet Caroline) where everyone knows every word, and everyone sings along to the song while hoisting a beer or mixed drink in the air.

The Six Feet Apart: Love in Quarantine songs (with the music) will be on Spotify, and I am excited for everyone to get a listen.

Interesting cover - do tell us how this came to be.?

I think the cover conveys mystery. What is Luna doing on the roof? Is she going to jump? Is he saving her? I love the skyline behind them that sets the scene.

This cover is the second version. Here is the first cover, which I love and use for the audiobook version.

Why did you pick New York as the backdrop for this story?

Although the book begins in New York, it quickly moves to California and the celebrity lifestyle. The scenery changes to signify the journey the characters make in their lives.

What are you working on right now?

I am working on Book 2 in the Luna James trilogy - a romantic thriller. In my second book, I write about Luna’s and Stryker’s backstories. You will find out why they are the way they are. Plus, there will be more interesting characters and the unexpected!
