Emily Jane Trent - Military Romance That Keep You At the edge of your seat

Emily Jane Trent writes military romance about characters you’ll get to know and love. If you are a fan of stories with a heroine that’s got spunk and a hunk of a hero that you’d like to take home with you, these stories are what you’re looking for. Emily’s romantic tales will let you escape into a fantasy – and you won’t want it to end – ever. As our Author of the Day, she tells us about her book, Hawke.

Please give us a short introduction to what Hawke is about.

A scientist Emilia Draper races to deliver a cure to save a young girl from a fatal disease. Former Navy SEAL Hawke Turner will put it all on the line to protect the woman he loves from the danger closing in. A heart-pounding tale of romantic suspense!

What inspired you to write this story? Was there anything in particular that made you want to tackle this?

In the Must Love Danger series, the heroine is a professional woman. The story shows her value and strength against overwhelming odds.

Tell us more about Emilia Draper. What makes her tick?

Emilia’s younger sister died of a rare disease, a loss she feels deeply. She’s devoted her biotech career to finding the cure. In this story, if she can get the cure to market fast enough, she'll save the life of another child.

What makes Hawke such a great protagonist?

Hawke Turner retired from the Navy to work at Black Swan, an elite protection agency. In this story, he risks his life to help his childhood friend save the life of an innocent child.

Besides writing, what other secret skills do you have?

I love wine tasting, especially the wine country of Arizona where I live. My other passion is health and nutrition, so I cook delicious healthy meals.

Why military romantic suspense? What drew you to the genre?

I have immense admiration for military heroes. I value the protection they offer, and it's exciting to write stories about their romances. Each hero risks his life to save the woman he loves. The combination of the danger that draws the lovers together and the chemistry between them, makes this genre exciting to write and to read!

Interesting cover. Please tell us more about how it came to be.

The cover design for this series is different. It highlights the Navy SEAL hero, who steals my heart. I often look at the cover while I write to feel close to the hero.

Hawke is Book 1 of the Must Love Danger series. Can it be read as a standalone? How do the other books in the series tie in with this one?

Hawke can be read as a standalone. His romance is complete with a happy ending. The other books feature a different bodyguard at Black Swan. Each can be read alone. But some of the earlier characters make appearances, for those who enjoy that.

Hawke has a protective streak. What, would you say, is so appealing about a guy who is protective?

A protective hero creates safety. Hawke inspires faith in love, loyalty, and protection. Being immersed in the story is a way to experience those feelings. It's my intention to provide an escape into such a world and to give hope to each reader.

What did you have the most fun with when you wrote this story?

In this story, the exciting twists and turns were fun to write. My adrenaline pumps when I write those scenes, so I'm sure the reader will feel it too. I love the surprises, the unexpected scenes that make a book good.

When starting on a new book, what is the first thing you do?

For a new book, I take time to get the story idea. I'll search news stories and other sites to inspire me. But in the end, I just sit and brainstorm until an idea seems to gel. Then I'm able to create characters that can tell that story well.

Do you have any interesting writing habits? What is an average writing day like for you?

Instead of using software to organize, I draw my plot on a huge sheet of paper. I use an old desktop calendar and turn it over, so I can use the blank side. I mark off the Acts and Chapters. Then I write on the notes what will happen. This has been a great system because it's easy to change the notes or move them around. I'm a very visual person, so seeing the scenes on a large, movable scale helps me.

What are you working on right now?

Right now, I'm writing Austin (Must Love Danger Book 6) the final book of this series. I don't have the release date yet but will be announcing that shortly.
