Toni Anderson - A Series About the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit

Toni Anderson is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, RITA® finalist, science nerd, professional tourist, dog lover, gardener, mom. Originally from a small town in England, Toni studied Marine Biology at University of Liverpool (B.Sc.) and University of St. Andrews (Ph.D.) with the intention she’d never be far from the ocean. Well, that plan backfired and she ended up in the Canadian prairies with her biology professor husband, two kids, a rescue dog, and one chilled leopard gecko. As our Author of the Day, Toni tells us all about her Cold Justice Series Box Set: Vol II.

Please give us a short introduction to what the Cold Justice Series Box Set: Vol II is about.

This box set contains three Romantic Suspense novels, COLD FEAR, COLD IN THE SHADOWS, and COLD HEARTED. They’ve been described by readers as fast-paced stories with twists and turns that keep them on the edge of their seat.

What inspired you to start this series? Did you plan from the start for it to become a series?

Yes, I definitely planned a series. I started writing these books about five years ago. I wanted to have a wide cast of characters with a variety of possible plot scenarios so I chose to write about the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit. Now I’m branching out into the Crisis Negotiation Unit also based in Quantico.

Tell us more about Dominic and Ava. What makes them so special and why do they work together so well?

Dominic Sheridan and Ava Kanas are the hero and heroine of my new/upcoming release COLD & DEADLY. Dominic is a hostage negotiator out of the Crisis Negotiation Unit and knows how to talk his way out of a difficult situation. Ava is a rookie agent who tends to charge into situations rather than sit back and assess. They work well together because they recognize the other’s strengths.

The set also includes a short story. Tell us more about it.

The short story centers on two recurring characters from the series. I can’t go into too much detail without giving the plot away. It also introduces the hero of COLD HEARTED a former US Marine.

Besides writing, what other secret skills do you have?

I used to be a Marine Biologist so I’m pretty good at collecting shells on the beach and wading in the surf. I also did a lot of drawing and painting, but I don’t have much time any more. Plus, I love gardening when the yard isn’t covered in snow.

Three of the books in the set have received awards. What surprised you most about readers' reactions to the books?

The books have all finaled in contests which is always a surprise and a thrill. I’ve been gratified that the books have been well received by readers.

Which famous person, living or dead would you like to meet and why?

Charles Darwin. I’d love to have been on the HMS Beagle when he discovered the Galapagos Islands.

Do you have any interesting writing habits? What is an average writing day like for you?

I generally start the day with a dog walk. When I’m working on a new story I have a set word count that I aim for and I basically sit or stand at my desk until I achieve it. Some days I get there by noon and other days it takes until midnight. The rest of the day is filled with all the other necessities of publishing my own books.

What are you working on right now?

I’ve just finished COLD & DEADLY which comes out on Feb 12. Now I’m working on the next book in that series, titled COLDER THAN SIN featuring another FBI Hostage Negotiator.

Where can our readers discover more of your work or interact with you?

I love talking to new readers. Here are some places to keep up with my news.
