The men wear black dress coats, long pantaloons, black cravats, and many of them even submit, in this hot sun, to black French hats. We drove through the Puerta de Monserrate, a heavy gateway of the prevailing yellow or tawny color, where soldiers are on guard, across the moat, out upon the "Paseo de Isabel Segunda," and are now "extramuros," without the walls.
