ue of a pretended secret marriage between Charles Stuart and Lucy Walter - it was possible that this Monmouth who now proclaimed himself King of England was not even the illegitimate child of the late sovereign. What but ruin and disaster could be the end of this grotesque pretension? How could it be hoped that England would ever swallow such a Perkin? And it was on his behalf, to uphold his fantastic claim, that these West Country clods, led by a few armigerous Whigs, had been seduced into rebellion!

"Quo, quo, scelesti, ruitis?"

He laughed and sighed in one; but the laugh dominated the sigh, for Mr. Blood was unsympathetic, as are most self-sufficient men; and he was very self-sufficient; adversity had taught him so to be. Such excellent book and admirable author! I very much wonder why I hadn't encountered any of his work before this. Sabatini is, in my opinion, a truly attentive, artistic, affluent, and accomplished writer, not to mention a shrewd philosopher. I highly recommend this story to everyone. It is my belief that all will enjoy such an ingenious and thrilling tale.

Note to previous commenter: From Wikipedia:

Captain Blood Returns and The Fortunes of Captain Blood are not sequels, but collections of short stories set entirely within the timeframe of the original novel.
Out Friggin' standing. This is far better than Pirates of the Carabian. Captian Blood is a great tatical thinker. I love it.

It just gets better and better as you read along. I wish they had the sequels 'The Fortunes of Captain Blood' and 'The Chronicles of Captain Blood' at this site.
If you enjoy high adventure, this is a must read and worth your time! And if you have not read high adventure yet, this is one of the first books you pick up - particularly to taste the adventures of pirate.
Captain Blood is a great story of piracy in the West Indies. Lots of swashbuckling action, with a romance mixed in. Sabatini is easy to read, and tells a good tale. There were lots of similarities to the exploits of Henry Morgan, but overall....I'd recommend it as a good introduction to the glorious age of buccaneers. Exciting to read, and well worth your time. Sabatini is in the same league as Robert Louis Stevenson, but for some reason he's not as well known. It's time to get the word out....this guy can write!!!!
