Ballantyne wrote tons of books about foreign places, historical events. He often went to the places he wrote about so he could be sure all his information was accurate. Unlike most books of the day, his are filled with interesting information, adventure, and Christian morals. The Coral Island is (so far) my favorite he has written. It also has a sequel, The Gorilla Hunters. A great adventure from a great writer!
I love this book! Hilariously charming, this is an excellent light read. The family are always falling into absurd mishaps: like trying to drive the carriage while the horse is still tied, or nearly blowing up the family with "fulminating paste" on the forth of July. But, however difficult their problem may seem, they can always turn to the sensible Lady from Philadelphia for advice. Highly recommended!
I love this series! They are written from a Christian perspective, absolutely charming, and great for kids (and adults)! I'm not sure where this one places in the series, but you can pick up any of them; it's not neccesary to start at the beginning. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did! I'm hoping to see more books by this author soon. :)
