How frustrating that the plot revolves around the hero's stupidity, not once but four times or more. Also another typical weak ending with so many unanswered questions. A good yarn spoiled.
This is my second J. S. Fletcher mystery novel that has a weak ending. Such an anticlimax after an exciting tale which is still worth reading for it's plot and characters..
A very enjoyable read. Interesting characters and great plot. Unfortunately I felt the ending left me unsatisfied after such an exciting chase otherwise i would give it 5 stars.
A thoroughly enjoyable read. Good plot with interesting characters. Delightful descriptions of early 20C London. maybe a little overdone on the medical science, but well worth reading if you enjoy mysteries with a dash of a romance of the day.
An interesting crime novel with many twists and turn. A mix between action and court drama and I agree that you must concentrate to follow the plot. Overall very good.
A most entertaining and enjoyable read, with elements of romance, mystery, daring, novelty and humour. There are descriptive splashes of 19 century life in Switzerland, Florence, Egypt and India and you would have to be a wordsmith to understand some of the beautiful old vocabulary. I felt some of the conversational passages laboured the point a bit and wondered if the story idea sprang from Dr, Meryon's "Lady Hester Stanhope" but on a slightly different social plain. I would have loved a further 300 pages taking the journey from Singapore to London and felt it rushed to get to the end plot, missing a great opportunity. Definitely recommended to all of today's youth.
5 great short stories that got me dancing across the pages. Somehow I did not get as immersed as I sometimes do with other writers, so sorry, only 4 stars.
