At age 23, James Dalessandro founded the Santa Cruz Poetry Festival with Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Charles Bukowski, Ken Kesey and Alan Ginsberg - the nation's largest literary event. He has published four books - CANARY IN A COAL MINE (Poetry), BOHEMIAN HEART (noir San Francisco detective thriller), 1906: A NOVEL (Historical Fiction) and CITIZEN JANE (True Crime). He hs written the screenplays for all his book: 1906: A NOVEL sold to Warner Brothers after a heated Hollywood bidding war and is scheduled as a Pixar live action feature with Brad Bird directing. James' award-winning documentary film THE DAMNEDEST, FINEST RUINS, which includes rare silent film footage and photographs of the 1906 earthquake plays KQED/PBS Youtube.com channel. He lives in San Francisco with wife Katie and canine muse Giacomo Poochini, where he teaches screenwriting at the Academy of Arts.
