About the Author

Sarah (Sally) Wister was born July 20, 1761, and lived in Pennsylvania during the American Revolution. She is principally known as the author of Sally Wister's Journal, written when she was sixteen. She returned to Philadelphia in 1778 where she remained until her death in 1804. Albert Cook Meyers has provided this edition with extensive footnotes and an illuminating introduction.
