Kestien jälkeen Risto makaili muutamia päiviä tuvassa. Eräänä päivänä sanoi Risto isällensä: "Minulla tekee mieli lähteä hakemaan jäneksen polkuja, saanhan minä lankoja, isä?"
"Saat, mene vaan".
Risto otti taas isänsä sukset ja lähti hiihtämään muka metsään, vaan hiihtikin Ollin luo niinkuin viime kerrallakin. Nyt päättivät kumppanit että lanka viritetään saman veräjän pieleen, mutta toiselle puolen veräjää ja että kolme jänestä tällä
