Nala itse orhit ohji,
karahutti kartanohon.

Tytär Bhiman tokko eksyi,
tokko eksyi valtavarsat?

Riikinkukkopa ylinnä
istui kukkapenkerellä
pää sojossa paahtehessa,
norsu seisoi notkotellen
aitauksessa alio;
kuulivat rattahan rapinan:
Kaulojansa kurkottivat,
päästivät iloista ääntä,
toivoen sulo sadetta,
pilven rankan purkivaksi.

Damajanti toivomielin
itse tuon sanoiksi virkki:
»Riemu rinnan paisuttavi,
kun jalon jyminän kuulen,
joka yltävi alingon!
Se on Nala, maan kuningas!»
