Ketana Hirusava - Magical Bedtime Stories

As a little girl, Ketana's mother read her a new book every night before going to bed.  Although she grew up long ago and now runs a recruitment company, Ketana still reads children's books with great pleasure. She believes that each child deserves to feel the warmth, affection and love of their parents, especially during a bedtime story filled with the magical moments of a fairy tale before going to bed. As our Author of the day, she tells us all about her book, How To Make A Unicorn Fall Asleep. 

Please give us a short introduction to what How To Make A Unicorn Fall Asleep is about.

The unicorn plays a major role in this story. Bianca is trying to sleep, but the unicorn refuses to fall asleep. Bianca ends up calling in some help from her little friend, Ben. Bianca tries playing the guitar, but the unicorn starts dancing instead of sleeping. So begins this amazing fairy tale "How To Make A Unicorn Fall Asleep".

What inspired you to write this story?

Writing is my passion. I always wanted to write a book. I was looking forward to writing a book related to children and finally got this topic. I just love to share stories with children and making them feel happy.

Why bring a unicorn into the story?

The unicorn plays an interesting role. Along with mermaids and dragons, unicorns are among the world's best-known mythical creatures. The unicorn did not spring fully formed in the popular imagination; instead, it gradually evolved from numerous early sources. That’s why I ended up adding a unicorn into the story.

Tell us more about Bianca and Ben. What makes them so special?

Bianca and Ben are great friends. They both are trying to get the unicorn to fall asleep. Ben comes up with a lot of creative ideas to assist Bianca.

The book has a lovely cover. How did it come about?

I created the cover design myself. It thought that a unicorn on a cloud would be very cute. At the same time, I wanted to introduce the readers to all our heroes: Bianca, Ben and Unicorn.

Besides writing, what other secret skills do you have?

I love to motivate other people. So that they can change their lives. If a single word from me can motivate anyone, then it will be a great achievement for me.

Where does your love for children's books come from?

When I was little, my mother read me a new book every night before going to bed. That was long ago... now I run a recruitment company and live in the center of Europe. But, my love of children's books has not gone away. I still get the same enjoyment from reading children's books.

What is your personal favorite children's book?

The Adventures of A Little Mouse (1978)

Which of the characters was the most fun to create?

Ben, of course! The boy is so fond of giving advice.

What are you working on right now?

I am working on a new children's book about a little mermaid. I am planning to publish this book in about two months' time.
