e kallioille olivat taajat lintuparvet laskeutuneet tuulten ja myrskyjen suojaan. Kodin ikkunasta oli ihan selvään nähnyt, miten ne siellä vaahtojen keskellä tepastelivat, milloin lentoon lehahtivat, taas laskeutuakseen.
Mutta poissa oli entinen koti. Äiti oli jo kauvan haudan hiljaisuudessa levännyt, isä sinne vuosi sitten siirtynyt.
Entinen koulutalo, meri ja alastomat kalliot olivat vain jäljellä tuolla hyvin kaukana, kaukana...
Ikäänkuin lastu veistäessä puun kupeesta singahtaa oli Esterkin vierotettu isästään turvattomana maailman kolkkia kiertämään. Miten toisenlaista oli kaikki täällä sisämaassa. Eivät laineet loiskineet rantoja vastaan samalla voimalla, eivät linnut tepastelleet yhtä ketterästi täällä kuin siellä...
Mutta hän oli suudellut täällä vierasta miestä. Siellä ei.
