This collection contains 5 true accounts of insurrections by black slaves in the Americas. There is a biography at the end of this volume. This book is wellwritten, well researched and reliable. It tells about a sad and embarrasing chapter in history we must not forget. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in black history, US-history, history of slavery or in history in general.

I enjoyed reading this book: it told me a bit more than I knew about some of the very famous people whose stories are told here, but it also told the stories of some people I knew nothing about. This book is an easy and nice read; it is interesting for people who are interested in history, or also for people who are not really interested in history but like to read short stories about real people.

This book will be interesting for anyone who wants to know more about the history of psychology, it gives a fascinating look into past ideas about people, but it is too dated to be useful as a book to learn about current insights in psychology. As a book on the history of psychology I give this book 4 stars, but as a book on psychology only 2 stars because the information is too obsolete.

This volume contains 9 essays written by Schopenhauer and translated by T.Bailey Saunders, M.A.. These essays where first published in 1851 in 'Pererga und Paralipomena'. This book includes his (in)famous essay on women, it shows a very negative view on women. I (female) found this essay very amusing, even though he did not mean it in jest and shows his hurt (I think, but this is still being discussed). This volume of essays is a very good example of Schopenhauers work: it shows how beautifully he could write, and it also shows his pessimism for which he is wellknown and which is the core of his philosophy.
The content of this volume:
ON THE SUFFERINGS OF THE WORLD
ON THE VANITY OF EXISTENCE
ON SUICIDE
IMMORTALITY: A DIALOGUE
PSYCHOLOGICAL OBSERVATIONS
ON EDUCATION
OF WOMEN
ON NOISE
A FEW PARABLES
In this book 'I' and his friend 'B' go on a journey from London to Oberammergau in Germany to see the Passion Play there. Jerome tells of the trip and of some of the touristic sightseeing they do. There are a few 'problems' on the way with a German bed, trying to get an omelette, seesickness, fellow travellers and more. It is written in a very funny way and I advise this book to anyone who likes to read humor. If you enjoyed Jerome's 'Three Men in a Boat' or books by Wodehouse, then you should really give this book a try. The pace of this over a 120 years old book is slower than in modern books, but it does not take more then a few pages to get used to this.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) published this book in 1874. Most of the book is written as a epistolary novel in the form of letters written by the 'me' (Werther) to his friend Wilhelm. This book is typical for the 'Sturm und Drang'-period, which is a type of German literature written mainly in the period 1767-1785. It is a reaction to the rationalism of the Enlightenment and advocates listening to your heart, feelings take precedence.
In this book the student Werther falls in love with Lotte, who looks after her brothers and sisters after the death of her mother. Lotte is engaged to Albert. Werther becomes friends with Lotte and Albert, even though it hurts him that they are engaged. After a while his pain becomes too much and he leaves town, but later decides to go back. I won't tell what happens then because I don't want to give away the ending, but there is a lot of emotions, feelings, hurt and desperation before this book ends.
