This edition of The Merry Wives of Windsor was published in 1909, well before the Catalan Dictionary and General Grammar by Pompeu Fabra appeared in 1917 and 1918. For this reason, the translation of Josep Carner makes use of the grammatical and orthographic conventions that were generally accepted at that time, and assuch have been kept untouched throughout this transcription.

a boca; consecuentment parleu clar y net. Us sentiu una corrent amorosa envers la donzella?

SHALLOW Cosí Abraham Slender, podreu estimarla?

SLENDER Així ho conto, senyor; jo faré tot lo que pertany a un home qui vol conduhirse raonablement.

EVANS No es això! Per les ànimes benaventurades del paradís! Heu de respondre de lo que pogueu. Podeu decantar el vostre desig envers ella?

Author of the Day

Elin Barnes
Elin Barnes has done many different things in her life, like being a flight instructor, working for a criminal appeals lawyer and working for many big name technology companies in Silicon Valley (Microsoft, Google etc.). But the one thing that she never thought would actually happen is to write (and finish) a book. Her debut novel, Justification for Murder, has, in the meantime, earned rave reviews and grown into a series. As our author of the day, Barnes reveals why she picked Silicon Valley as the backdrop, her inspiration behind writing a biomedical thriller and how she went for ride-alongs with the San Jose Police Department.
