Wow!! I had just been remarking to my sister that for once in my life I'd like to read a story written in this time period that didn't have a predictable plot. This certainly was one of the most unpredictable stories I have read. I am going to give it five stars. Wish I could give it ten!!
A fast, good whodunit mystery. I did have a vague hint as to who the murderer was, but honestly it could have been any of the three different suspects. I thought I solved it when I was about 85% of the way finished, but it turns out I was wrong. Usually the obvious solution isn't the right one! 5 star book!
I do have to agree with Matthew, the very first reviewer. The whole story line gradually builds things up and promises a thrilling ending...and then @ the ending, you're like, "What? That was IT?" But the rest of the story was very cool!
About conspirators trying to remove William of Orange from the throne, it had some very thrilling and unexpected turns. I did like "The Viper of Milan" by the same author a lot better. And this one had a typographical error: 25% of the book was italicized. Which got old really fast. So I give it 4 stars, because the plot itself was good.
This was a wonderful story of passion, intrigue, revenge and battle. The title is a bit misleading; there is not much actual romance. The hero throughout is trying the rescue his wife from The Viper of Milan. 5 stars.
This was a very satisfying book. There was nothing I would change. All the characters were true-to-live. It really can be described as vivid and charming. I love it. 5 stars!
