A fairly interesting story, with decent writing. I only gave it three stars because the alien behavior is not only obviously based on that of an Earthly species, but the said reference is explicitly mentioned in the story before the reveal. It's almost like the author was saying "See, this could be real because it happens on Earth."
A reclamation crew, is rescuing yet another abandoned human colony from an alien race that had enslaved them, but later abandoned them. What they find almost kills them.
A pretty good story, though a bit different from mainline sci-fi fare. It's a bit hard to review the story without giving it away. So, just dive in and enjoy.
I'm baffled by the previous review. I found this to be one of the least entertaining and most unbelievable sci-fi stories I've ever read. It's just a bunch of dialog and flashback memories - no action. The only reason I finished it is because I thought it would get better - what a waste of time.
I wouldn't classify this story as terrible. I suppose the best word I can find to describe it is immature. It is told more as a narrative like the old HG Wells novels, and as such it has no real driving force. Also, there are lots of coincidences and assumptions that make it seem like it was plotted by a high school student. Other than that, I would say it's a fair read.
The American hero is sucked into an underworld where he must rescue the princess and destroy the villain. A tired old tale with little new to offer.
This is not so much a story as a historical narration (fictional, of course), and as such it fails to have any real drive to it. Worth a read, but keep expectations low.

A cog in the machine dares to try something different. The results get him in trouble - sort of.
