About the Author

Aida Zaciragic’s journey from being a school teacher to becoming an award-winning author was jumpstarted when her growing interest in children’s fairy tales ignited her creativity and led her to pick up a pen herself. Her fascination with various aspects of life, spanning her past, present, and future, is beautifully portrayed in her stories. Critics often liken her novels to those of H.C. Andersen, due to the frequent references to forgotten legends within her tales. Although Aida has been residing in Sweden for the the last few decades, her roots trace back to Bosnia and Herzegovina, lands that were inhabited by kings during the Middle Ages. As a child, she frequently heard stories about these kings that fueled her imagination.Years later, her imagination found its voice in her fairy tale, The Kingdom of White Lilies, which revolves around the life of the last Bosnian queen, Katarina Kosača, and her children. This fairy tale is regarded as one of the most cherished treasures in Bosnian literature, and its second part, The Law of Freedom, earned Aida an award at the Sarajevo Book Fair in 2014. Aida translated the book Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren from Swedish to Bosnian for the New Children’s Book Publishing House in Sarajevo. Additionally, for Veselin Maslesa Publishing House, she translated We Against You by Fredrik Beckman from Swedish. Aida is a member of both the Society of Writers of Sweden and the Society of Writers of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
