Maria Elena Sandovici was born in Bucharest, a place she loves. Curiosity and a desire for international adventures made her leave home at an early age to explore life in such places as New York City, Barcelona, and Galveston, Texas. Like her characters, she's frequently plagued by both homesickness and a desire to create new lives for herself in different settings. She writes novels about wanderers who feel lost, about life-changing journeys, nostalgia, and running away. She is also an artist and author of the daily blog Have Watercolors Will Travel. Dogs with Bagels is her first novel, followed by Stray Dogs and Lonely Beaches, and the much anticipated, reader-requested follow-up story to Dogs with Bagels, Lost Path to Solitude.
