Some of Kirk's interests are jazz, books, cycling, Boston terriers & pit bulls. He has spent time in Southern California, Louisiana, Southeast Asia, Europe & Hawaii––not necessarily in that order.

His novel Lustmord: Anatomy of a Serial Butcher was a finalist in the Kindle Book Review's Best Kindle Book Awards of 2014. He is also the author of Zook, Working the Hard Side of the Street, Fifty Shades of Tinsel, Ziggy Popper at Large & a few other novels & stories.

Kirk's top crime novelist is Derek Raymond, followed by James M. Cain & Eddie Bunker. His favorite horror writers are Edgar Allan Poe & Jack Ketchum. Kirk Alex is partial to the short stories of Charles Bukowski & Plez Gehman for their outrageous humor, as well as Sean Chercover's private eye novels for their Chicago backdrop and authentic tone. Favorite playwrights (to read) are Eugene O'Neil, August Strindberg & Dan Fante.
